As the Son of God
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 2:7 I will proclaim the decree of the Lord: He said to me, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father.
NT Fulfillment:
Luke 1:32 –He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.
Luke 1:35 –The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you , and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.


As the Seed of the Woman
OT Prophecy:
Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”
NT Fulfillment:
Galatians 4:4 –But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law,

As the Seed of Abraham
OT Prophecy:
Genesis 17:7, 22:18 –I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. -and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”
NT Fulfillment:
Galatians 3:16 –The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. The Scripture does not say “and to seeds,” meaning many people, but “and to your seed,” meaning one person, who is Christ.

As the Seed of Isaac
OT Prophecy:
Genesis 21:12 –But God said to him, “Do not be so distressed about the boy and your maidservant. Listen to whatever Sarah tells you, because it is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.
NT Fulfillment:
Hebrews 11:17-19 –By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death.

As the Seed of David
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 132:11 –The Lord swore an oath to David, a sure oath that he will not revoke: “One of your own descendants I will place on your throne – 
Jeremiah 23:5 –“The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will raise up to David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land. NT Fulfillment:
Acts 13:23 –“From this man’s descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised. 
Romans 1:3 -regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a descendant of David,

His Coming at a Set Time
OT Prophecy:
Genesis 49:10 –The scepter will not depart from Judah, not the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs and the obedience of the nations is his.
Daniel 9:24-25  –“Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy.
NT Fulfillment:
Luke 2:1 –In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.

His Being Born of a Virgin
OT Prophecy:
Isaiah 7:14 –Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 1:22-23 –All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” – which means “God with us.”
Luke 2:7 –and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

His Being Called Immanuel
OT Prophecy:
Isaiah 7:14 –Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 1:22-23 –All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” – which means “God with us.”

His Being Born in Bethlehem of Judea

Micah 5:2 –“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come a ruler for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 2:1 –After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem
Luke 2:4-6 –So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born,

Great Persons Coming to Adore Him
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 72:10 –The kings of Tarshish and of distant shores will bring tribute to him; the kings of Sheba and Seba will present him gifts.
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 2:1-11 –After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of king Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.” When king Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born. “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written: ” ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.’ ” Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.” After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped  him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.

The Slaying of the Children of Bethlehem
OT Prophecy:
Jeremiah 31:15 –This is what the Lord says: “A voice is heard in Ramah, mourning and great weeping, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because her children are no more.”
NT Prophecy:
Matthew 2:16-18 –When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled: “A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more,”

His Being Called out of Egypt
OT Prophecy:
Hosea 11:1 –“When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 2:15 –where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son.”

His Being Preceded by John the Baptist
OT Prophecy:
Isaiah 40:3 –A voice of one calling: “In the desert prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God.
Malachi 3:1  –“See, I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the Lord Almighty.
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 3:1, 3 –In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the desert of Judea -This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: “A voice of one calling in the desert, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’ “
Luke 1:17 –And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous – to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

His Being Anointed with the Spirit
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 45:7 –You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.
Isaiah 11:2 –The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him – the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord –
Isaiah 61:1  –The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives, and release from darkness for the prisoners,
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 3:16 –As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him.
John 3:34 –For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.
Acts 10:38 –how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

His Being a Prophet Like to Moses
OT Prophecy:
Deuteronomy 18:15-18 –The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to him. For this is what you asked of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the Lord our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.” The Lord said to me: ” What they say is good. I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him.
NT Fulfillment:
Acts 3:20-22 –and that he may send the Christ, who has been appointed for you – even Jesus. He must remain in heaven until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets. For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you.

His Being a Priest After the Order of Melchizedek
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 110:4 –The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”
NT Fulfillment:
Hebrews 5:5-6 –So Christ also did not take upon himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But God said to him, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father.” And he says in another place, “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”

His Entering on His Public Ministry
OT Prophecy:
Isaiah 61:1-2 –The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,
NT Fulfillment:
Luke 4:16-21 –He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him, and he began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
Luke 4:43  –But he said, “I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.”

His Ministry Commencing in Galilee
OT Prophecy:
Isaiah 9:1-2 –Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the Gentiles, by the way of the sea, along the Jordan – The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 4:12-16 –When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he returned to Galilee. Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali – to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah: “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the way to the sea, along the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles – the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.”
Matthew 4:23  –Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.

His Entering Publicly into Jerusalem
OT Prophecy:
Zechariah 9:9 –Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 21:1-5 –As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, tell him that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.” This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: “Say to the Daughter of Zion, ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.'”

His Coming Into the Temple
OT Prophecy:
Haggai 2:7,9 –I will shake all nations, and the desired of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the Lord Almighty. 
Malachi 3:1  –‘The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the Lord Almighty.
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 21:12 –Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves.
Luke 2:27-32 –Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared in the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel.”
John 2:13-16  –When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple courts, he found men selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! How dare you turn my Father’s house into a market!”

His Poverty
OT Prophecy:
Isaiah 53:2 –He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
NT Fulfillment:
Mark 6:3 –Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.
Luke 9:58 –Jesus replied, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”

His Meekness and Want of Ostentatious
OT Prophecy:
Isaiah 42:2 –He will not shout or cry out, or raise his voice in the streets.
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 12:15-16 –Aware of this, Jesus withdrew from that place. Many followed him, and he healed all their sick, warning them not to tell who he was. 
Matthew 12:19 –He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets.

His Tenderness and Compassion
OT Prophecy:
Isaiah 40:11 –He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those who have young.
Isaiah 42:3 –A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice;
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 12:15 –Aware of this, Jesus withdrew from that place. Many followed him, and he healed all their sick,  
Matthew 12:20 –A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he leads justice to victory.
Hebrews 4:15 –For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet was without sin. 

His Being Without Guile
OT Prophecy:
Isaiah 53:9 –He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.
NT Fulfillment:
1 Peter 2:22 “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.”

His Zeal
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 69:7 –for zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who insult you fall on me.
NT Fulfillment:
John 2:17 –His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.”

His Preaching by Parables
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 78:2 –I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter hidden things, things from of old –
NT Prophecy:
Matthew 13:34-35 –Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable. So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet: “I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world.”

His Working Miracles
OT Prophecy:
Isaiah 35:5-6 –Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy. Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert.
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 11:4-6 –Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor. Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me.”
John 11:47  –Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the Sanhedrin. “What are we accomplishing?” they asked. “Here is this man performing many miraculous signs.

His Bearing Reproach
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 22:6 –But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by men and despised by the people.
Psalm 69:7 –For I endure scorn for your sake, and shame covers my face.
Psalm 69:9 –for zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who insult you fall on me.
Psalm 69:20 –Scorn has broken my heart and has left me helpless; I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found none.
NT Fulfillment:
Romans 15:3 –For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.”

His Being Rejected by His Brethren
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 69:8 –I am a stranger to my brothers, an alien to my own mother’s sons;
Isaiah 63:3 “I have trodden the winepress alone; from the nations no one was with me. I trampled them in my anger and trod them down in my wrath; their blood spattered my garments, and I stained all my clothing.
NT Fulfillment:
John 1:11 –He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 
John 7:3 –Jesus’ brothers said to him, “You ought to leave here and go to Judea, so that your disciples may see the miracles you do.

His Being a Stone of Stumbling to the Jews
OT Prophecy:
Isaiah 8:14 –and he will be a sanctuary; but for both houses of Israel he will be a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalem he will be a trap and a snare.
NT Fulfillment:
Romans 9:32-33 –Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the “stumbling stone.” As it is written: “See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”  
1 Peter 2:8 –and, “A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they disobey the message – which is also what they were destined for.

His Being Hated by the Jews
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 69:4 –Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me. I am forced to restore what I did not steal. 
Isaiah 49:7 –This is what the Lord says – the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel – to him who was despised and abhorred by the nation, to the servant of rulers: “Kings will see you and rise up, princes will see and bow down, because of the Lord, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”
NT Fulfillment:
John 15:24-25 –If I had not done among them what no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have seen these miracles, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated me without reason.’

His Being Rejected by the Jewish Rulers
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 118:22 –The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone;
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 21:42 –Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: “‘The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?
John 7:48 “Has any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him?

That the Jews and Gentiles Should Combine Against Him
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 2:1-2 –Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the Lord and against his Anointed One.
NT Fulfillment:
Luke 23:12 –That day Herod and Pilate became friends – before this they had been enemies.
Acts 4:27 –Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed.

His Being Betrayed by a Friend
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 41:9 –Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.
Psalm 55:12-14  –If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it; if a foe were raising himself against me, I could hide from him. But it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend, with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship as we walked with the throng at the house of God.
NT Fulfillment:
John 13:18 “I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill the scripture: ‘He who shares my bread has lifted up his heel against me.’
John 13:21 –After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified, “I tell you the truth, one of you is going to betray me.”

His Disciples Forsaking Him
OT Prophecy:
Zechariah 13:7 –“Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, against the man who is close to me!” declares the Lord Almighty. “Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered, and I will turn my hand against the little ones.
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 26:31 –Then Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written: “‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
Matthew 26:56 –But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.

His Being Sold for Thirty Pieces of Silver
OT Prophecy:
Zechariah 11:12 –I told them, “If you think it best, give me my pay; but if not, keep it.” So they paid me thirty pieces of silver.
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 26:15 –and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty silver coins.

His Price Being Given for the Potter’s Field
OT Prophecy:
Zechariah 11:13 –And the Lord said to me, “Throw it to the potter” – the handsome price at which they priced me! So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the Lord to the potter.
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 27:7 –So they decided to use the money to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners.

The Intensity of His Sufferings
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 22:14-15 –I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted away within me. My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death.
NT Fulfillment:
Luke 22:42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”
Luke 22:44  –And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.

His Sufferings Being for Others
OT Prophecy:
Isaiah 53:4-6 –Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Isaiah 53:12 -Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
Daniel 9:26 –After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Anointed One will be cut off and will have nothing. The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed.
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 20:28 –just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

His Patience and Silence under Suffering
OT Prophecy:
Isaiah 53:7 –He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 26:63 –But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.”
Matthew 27:12-14 –When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer. Then Pilate asked him, “Don’t you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?” But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge – to the great amazement of the governor.

His Being Smitten on the Cheek
OT Prophecy:
Micah 5:1 –Marshal your troops, O city of troops, for a siege is laid against us. They will strike Israel’s ruler on the cheek with a rod.
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 27:30 –They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again.

His Visage Being Marred
OT Prophecy:
Isaiah 52:14 –Just as there were many who were appalled at him – his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man and his form marred beyond human likeness –
Isaiah 53:3 –He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
NT Fulfillment:
John 19:5 –When Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe, Pilate said to them, “Here is the man!”

His Being Spit On and Scourged
OT Prophecy:
Isaiah 50:6 –I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting.
NT Fulfillment:
Mark 14:65 –Then some began to spit at him; they blindfolded him, struck him with their fists, and said, “Prophesy!” And the guards took him and beat him.
John 19:1 –Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged.

His Hands and Feet Being Nailed to the Cross
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 22:16 –Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet.
NT Fulfillment:
John 19:18 –Here they crucified him, and with him two others – one on each side and Jesus in the middle.
John 20:25 –So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it.”

His Being Forsaken by God
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 22:1 –My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning?
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 27:46 –About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” – which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

His Being Mocked
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 22:7-8 –All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads: “He trusts in the Lord; let the Lord rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him.”
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 27:39-44 –Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!” In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s the King of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.'” In the same way the robbers who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.

Gall and Vinegar Being Given Him to Drink
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 69:21 –They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst.
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 27:34 –There they offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it.

His Garments Being Parted and Lots Cast for His Vesture
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 22:18 –They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.
NT Prophecy:
Matthew 27:35 –When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

His Being Numbered with the Transgressors
OT Prophecy:
Isaiah 53:12 –Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors.
NT Fulfillment:
Mark 15:28 –They crucified two robbers with him, one on his right and one on his left.

His Intercession for His Murderers
OT Prophecy:

NT Prophecy:

His Death

That a Bone of Him Should Not be Broken
OT Prophecy:
Exodus 12:46 -“It must be eaten inside one house; take none of the meat outside the house. Do not break any of the bones.
Psalm 34:20 –he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken.
NT Fulfillment:
John 19:33 –But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.
John 19:36 –These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken,”

His Being Pierced
OT Prophecy:
Zechariah 12:10 “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.
NT Fulfillment:
John 19:34 –Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.
John 19:37 –and, as another scripture says, “They will look on the one they have pierced.”

His Being Buried with the Rich
OT Prophecy:
Isaiah 53:9 –He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 27:57-60 –As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus. Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away.

His Flesh Not Seeing Corruption
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 16:10 –because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay.
NT Fulfillment:
Acts 2:31 –Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay.

His Resurrection
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 16:10 –because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay.
Isaiah 26:19 –But your dead will live; their bodies will rise. You who dwell in the dust, wake up and shout for joy. Your dew is like the dew of the morning; the earth will give birth to her dead.
NT Fulfillment:
Luke 24:6 –He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified  and on the third day be raised again.’
John 24:31 –Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight.
John 24:34   –and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.”

His Ascension
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 68:18 –When you ascended on high, you led captives in your train; you received gifts from men, even from the rebellious – that you, O Lord God, might dwell there.
NT Fulfillment:
Luke 24:51 –While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven.
Acts 1:9  -After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

His Sitting On the Right Hand of God
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 110:1 –The Lord says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”
NT Fulfillment:
Hebrews 1:3 –The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

His Exercising the Priestly Office in Heaven
OT Prophecy:
Zechariah 6:13 –It is he who will build the temple of the Lord, and he will be clothed with majesty and will sit and rule on his throne. And he will be a priest on his throne. And there will be harmony between the two.’
NT Fulfillment:
Romans 8:34 –Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died – more than that, who was raised to life – is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

His Being the Chief Cornerstone of the Church
OT Prophecy:
Isaiah 28:16 –So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who trusts will never be dismayed.
NT Fulfillment:
1 Peter 2:6-7 –For in Scripture it says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.” Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe: “The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone,”

His Being King in Zion
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 2:6 “I have installed my King on Zion, my holy hill.”
NT Fulfillment:
Luke 1:32 –He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,
John 18:33-37 –Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” “Is that your own idea,” Jesus asked, “or did others talk to you about me?” “Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “It was your people and your chief priests who handed you over to me. What is it you have done?” Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place.” “You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”

The Conversion of the Gentiles to Him
OT Prophecy:
Isaiah 11:10 –In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his place of rest will be glorious.
Isaiah 42:1 “Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him and he will bring justice to the nations.
NT Fulfillment:
Matthew 1:17 –Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile in Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ.
Matthew 1:21 –She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
John 10:16 –I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.
Acts 10:45 –The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles.
Acts 10:47  –Then Peter said, “Can anyone keep these people from being baptized with water? They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.”

His Righteous Government
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 45:6-7 –Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.
NT Fulfillment:
John 5:30 –By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.
Revelation 19:11 –I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war.

His Universal Dominion
OT Prophecy:
Psalm 72:8 –He will rule from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth.
Daniel 7:14 –He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.
NT Fulfillment:
Philippians 2:9, 11 –Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The Perpetuity of His Kingdom
OT Prophecy:
Isaiah 9:7 –Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.
Daniel 7:14 –He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.
NT Fulfillment:
